COUNTRY DESCRIPTION
Cost Rica, a country of 3.4 million people,  is in Central America.  it is a two hour flight from the USA.  San Jose, with a population of 1 million is the capitol of Costa Rica.  the official language is Spanish, although most of the Ticos (Native Costa Ricans) also speak some English. Cost Rica has one of the world's highest literacy rate at 92 percent.  the currency of Costa Rica is the Colon.  Staple foods are: Gallopinto (rice and beans), Casado (meat and vegetable stew) corn dishes, and natural ingredients.  Meals in most restaurants are economically priced.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS--Costa Rica
A valid passport is required to enter Costa Rica.  The Costa Rican government has recently made changes to their entry requirements and now require a valid passport for American Citizens. In many metropolitan cities you can receive a passport within 48 hours if you have an airline ticket.

The loss or theft of a U.S. Passport should be reported to the Local police and the nearest U.S. Embassy.  Members should carry a copy of their passport data page and leave the actual passport in the hotel safe or your room safe.

VISA REQUIREMENTS--Costa Rica
Not all persons wishing to travel to "Costa Rica need a Visa.  Your need for a Visa depends on your nationality, the purpose of the visit, and the length of your stay.  Visa exemptions and required depend on current agreements and treaties Cost Rica has with other nations. For more information.

HEALTHAccording to the World Health Organization (WHO), Costa Rica has no local transmission in-country and is considered "NOT  AN AFFECTED AREA  and is safe from SARS.  No vaccinations are needed when going to Costa Rica.
